Hi, my name is Zara Andrews.

I joined the Library and Evidence Research Centre at Leeds General Infirmary in April this year, as a receptionist.

This is my first time working in the NHS libraries, but I have been enjoying the challenges it brings, and the people I meet.

The position is a very busy one, mainly dealing with lots of customer enquiries, both in person and online. Despite this, I have been able to setup a Neurodivergent Book Club and apply to start a masters at the University of Sheffield in September 2025.

Before this position I was volunteering at Conisbrough Community Library, after finishing a library apprenticeship with Northumberland County Council at the Schools Library Service. I have a long-standing history of volunteering at a variety of places, including stewarding at a Victorian mansion, gardening at my local park, and building toilets in Ecuador. When I can, I still enjoy volunteering at Conisbrough Community Library and Western Park Museum in Sheffield.

I am still quite new to libraries, when compared to other peoples’ many years of experience, but I am excited to learn from those around me.
