There is a need for colleagues in NHS and Higher Education Library Knowledge Services (HE LKS) to maintain and develop links. HE students are the future staff members of the health service, with HE students taking clinical placements in Trusts served by NHS LKS. HCLU have held an annual meeting with colleges working in HELKS across the North West to provide them with an overview of the wider NHS and offer the opportunity for informal liaison at HEI LKS level.

The meeting this year took place at Edge Hill University.

It was attended by

  • David Stewart (NHS)
  • Victoria Treadway (NHS)
  • Lorna Clarke (Edgehill University)
  • Roy Vickers (University of Salford)
  • Dawn Grundy (Bolton University)
  • Julie Brand (UCLan)
  • Rob Caley (LJM University)
  • Karen Spencer (University of Chester)
  • Gil Young (NHS)

Apologies were received from

  • Liverpool Hope University
  • Manchester Metropolitan University
  • NoWAL (North West Academic Libraries)
  • University of Cumbria

  • University of Manchester

The morning session was opened by David Stewart providing a Knowledge for Healthcare and HCLU Update. Dawn Grundy then gave an overview of the Bolton Health Information Partnership. The final session of the morning provided an opportunity for the group to discuss developments across their own services and to review the notes from the meeting last year

After a tour of the new Catalyst Building the group spent the afternoon discussing ways of working together in the future.
