Following the retirement of Susan Bell in summer 2019, Ailsa Haigh has recently been promoted to the role of Senior Library Assistant for e-resources. The CNTW team bid farewell to Marion Bilton, based at Hopewood Park (formerly Cherry Knowle) in Ryhope, at the end of January 2020. Marion is a long serving library assistant within the team and is looking forward to her retirement. The library at Hopweood Park will be operating reduced hours from mid January.…
For the first time, a module focusing specifically on health librarianship has been added to the programme for the MA Library and Information Management at Manchester Metropolitan University. The module is led by Dr Geoff Walton, and provides an overview of the knowledge and skills required to provide library and knowledge services to an NHS or health organisation. Students on the module, like me, were fortunate to receive guest lectures from 17 health librarians, who each gave an insight into their career as well as exploring topics related to the field of health libraries.…
Ian King, for many years the manager of health library services at Bradford Royal Infirmary and an active spokesperson for health libraries in Yorkshire, died in August of this year. Known locally and nationally, Ian was seen by numerous librarians as being, for many crucial years, the 'go to' person for help and advice, which was always unstintingly given. He was regarded with a rare blend of respect and affection by the many colleagues he helped and mentored.…
